Horizons Academy Students Publish Powerful Research at City Hall
Horizons Academy students have demonstrated what can be achieved when young people's voices are heard, completing an inspiring peer research project that culminated in the publication of their own research magazine and a presentation at London's City Hall.
Over four sessions, Year 10 and Year 11 students worked alongside mentors Nataniel and Miriam from Living Proof as part of the PRU/AP Mentoring Peer Research Programme, funded by the Mayor of London's Violence Reduction Unit.
The students chose to research how stronger relationships between students and teachers can help reduce bullying, designing interviews and surveys to gather the views of staff and students across the academy. They used their findings to produce Hear Us Out, a thoughtful zine featuring research, personal reflections and practical recommendations for schools.
The project concluded with the students confidently presenting their findings at City Hall alongside three other schools involved in the programme. In recognition of their commitment and professionalism, each student received a salary in vouchers of their choice and a professional reference to support their future college applications.
The project helped develop valuable skills including teamwork, communication, research and public speaking, while empowering students to share their experiences and help shape positive change.
We are incredibly proud of Ciyanna, Kayleigh, Shemaiah and Tyrrell for their dedication, creativity and confidence throughout the project. Their work is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when young people are given the opportunity to lead meaningful research and have their voices heard.
Congratulations to all involved on this outstanding achievement.
