RSHE
The aims of relationships and sex education (RSE) at Horizons Academy Bexley is toAt Horizons Academy Bexley, Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is delivered as part of our wider Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum. RSHE plays a vital role in supporting pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to stay safe, build positive relationships and make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. In line with statutory guidance, RSHE is taught to all pupils as part of a whole-school approach to personal development.
Our curriculum supports pupils to:
- understand and develop healthy, respectful relationships
- recognise the importance of consent and personal boundaries
- understand how to keep themselves safe, including online
- develop positive online behaviours and manage their digital wellbeing
- develop their emotional wellbeing and resilience
- make informed, responsible choices about their health and future
Due to the nature of our setting, RSHE is delivered in a flexible and responsive way, recognising that pupils may join us at different points and for varying lengths of time.
Content is carefully selected to meet pupils’ immediate needs while ensuring coverage of statutory requirements wherever possible.
Our approach prioritises:
- safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- understanding of consent, respect and healthy relationships
- promotion of safe and responsible online behaviour and digital wellbeing
- building confidence, communication and respect
- supporting pupils to become cooperative, accountable and resilient individuals
We work closely with families and carers and respect their right to request withdrawal from the sex education elements of RSHE, in line with statutory guidance.
Our PSHE and RSHE provision is regularly reviewed to ensure it reflects current guidance, pupil needs and best practice.
The next full review of our PSHE and RSHE policy is scheduled for July 2026, with any updated curriculum changes to RSHE being implemented from September 2026.
