School Information

The aim of the KS3 Reintegration programme is to provide a short-term placement for Key Stage 3 (KS3) pupils who are not succeeding in mainstream schools.

To make a referral, each school must complete a referral form providing evidence that a graduated approach has been taken to support pupils in school, a risk assessment, and a Boxall profile and send these to  This email address is being protected from spambots. More details can be found by clicking the 'KS1 - 3 referrals' tab on the Horizons Academy Bexley website.

If a pupil is offered a place on the KS3 Reintegration programme, the parent/carer will be contacted to arrange a ‘Pre-admission’ meeting with the Head of Student Experience at Horizons Academy.

Prior to the pre-admission meeting, staff at Horizons Academy will review the Boxall profile completed for the child by the referring school and determine which group the pupil will join when they arrive and how long they are likely to be on our roll.

As highlighted below, each group will have a bespoke curriculum dependent on their Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.

   Refocus Reset Restore
Aim The aim of our Refocus group is to help our pupils to re-engage with education so that over time they are supported to successfully reintegrate back into a mainstream or a specialist setting. The aim of our Reset group is to help pupils to re-embrace a positive attitude towards education and find opportunities to overcome some of the barriers to learning that have affected their time in mainstream education. The aim of our Restore group is to help pupils to repair and re-establish their positive relationship with education and continue accessing the curriculum on offer at their mainstream school.
Curriculum The Refocus group’s curriculum will concentrate on addressing our pupils’ social, emotional and mental health needs. We believe that the curriculum on offer will equip them with some of the skills they need to help them to regulate their own behaviours whilst also providing us with opportunities to identify interventions and strategies that will help education professionals to support them with the next steps of their educational journey.  The Reset group’s curriculum will focus on an equal blend of core academic subjects and lessons/activities that support our pupils' social, emotional and mental health needs. We believe that the curriculum on offer will help pupils and staff to identify barriers to learning so that these can be developed and continued with the support of their home school. We believe that with continued support pupils in our Reset group will be able to successfully reintegrate back into a mainstream or specialist setting. The Restore group’s curriculum will have a heavier weighting of academic subjects complemented by a smaller social, emotional and mental health focused curriculum. We believe that the curriculum on offer will equip our pupils with the tools they need to successfully continue on their educational journey.
Timeframe

Pupils in this group are likely to remain with us for between 16 and 20 weeks.

For pupils where after 16 weeks of attending Horizons Academy there has been very little or no change in their ability to engage in learning then our SEN team will consult with the mainstream school to discuss the possibility of an EHCPNA.

Pupils in this group are likely to remain with us for between 12-16 weeks. Pupils in this group are likely to remain with us for between 8-12 weeks.

The aim of the KS3 Reintegration programme is to ensure that we help pupils identify strategies that will help them be successful while also building up an understanding of the strategies that will help adults work with them in the future so that they can return to a mainstream setting or move to a specialist provision.

Ongoing school support is imperative during the child's time at Horizons Academy so that both the child and the school are ready for their return when the placement ends. We encourage schools to visit their pupils while they are at Horizons and welcome the collaborative approach to supporting all children.
